International Languages Department

Mission

The mission of the International Languages Department is to advance the study of foreign languages in a direction that will serve the educational needs of a diverse community. Our programs encompass both language proficiency and cultural understanding so that students may become active participants in our global society. 

Courses

We offer courses in Spanish, Italian, French, German, Japanese, and Chinese languages. Elementary and intermediate grammar/conversation classes are offered for most of the languages. The International Language Resource Centers, equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual and technological support on both the Oceanside and San Elijo campuses, help augment the students' language learning experience.

We offer traditional on ground courses, as well as online, self-paced and certificate courses.

Student clubs promote cultural events, organize fundraising projects, and plan social activities on campus and in the community.

Summer Study Abroad Programs have been a tradition at MiraCosta College with instructors and students traveling to Spain, Costa Rica, and Mexico to study language and culture. A Spanish Conversation weekend program in Ensenada, Mexico is offered during the spring semester.
