The Cloths of Heaven

This body of work is inspired by the art historical representation of female figures from biblical, allegorical and mythological narratives. Drawing largely from the late Mannerist and Baroque periods of European painting, the images are Arnold’s reinterpreted "mise en" scenes. In her photographs, she explores her interest in the use of fabric and drapery as a pictorial device underscoring the stories and characters of these compositions.

The event will include a lecture/demonstration at CSU San Marcos on February 3, a hip hop master class at Palomar College on February 4, and a culminating performance by the Eveoke Dance Theatre at MiraCosta College on February 5.

Based on an ancient Chinese story, this play is an epic tale of sacrifice and justice. In the land of Caucasus when war begins, a kitchen maid risks her own life to save the life of a noble child. Escaping the city, where the child would certainly be murdered, she takes the infant with her on a perilous journey. But when the wealthy mother returns to claim him, their fates lie in the hands of a wily, unpredictable judge who will determine the child’s true mother by the test of the chalk circle.

Superintendent/President Dr. Francisco Rodriguez will officially acknowledge the opening of MiraCosta's newest building.

4th Annual Oceanside Jazz Festival Concerts

The jazz program at MiraCosta will be hosting nearly 50 school performing groups from all around the United States as part of their annual event, the Oceanside Jazz Festival. This year, jazz choirs will perform throughout the day on Friday, April 16, and jazz bands will perform on Saturday, April 17. Daytime school performances are open to the public and free of charge. Each day will culminate in an evening performance featuring our own jazz ensembles, which will perform with internationally recognized guest artists.
On Friday, April 16, the Frequency Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Matt Falker, will be sharing the stage with recording artist Karrin Allyson and her critically acclaimed trio of musicians. This versatile Kansas City-based vocalist has released 12 albums with Concord Records and has been nominated for three GRAMMY awards. She has a distinctive, soulful voice and is equally comfortable singing in English, French and Portuguese. Don’t miss this special event!

Commedia dell’arte ("comedy of craft") is a professional form of theater that began in Italy in the mid-16th century, and February 25 has been designated Global Day of Commedia dell'arte. MiraCosta College invites community members to participate as simultaneous events around the world are planned. Theatre companies, scholars, students and audiences worldwide will celebrate the art of performance with shows, conferences, lectures and workshops.
MiraCostaˇ¦s festivities will include a presentation to familiarize audience members with the characters of Commedia dell’arte, followed by an improvisation session featuring audience participation directed by associate faculty member/theatre artist Sherri Allen. The evening will culminate with Flaminio Scala's Scenarios of the Commedia dell'arte, performed by actors from Chronos Theatre Group, a Carlsbad-based troupe of actors, dancers and visual artists dedicated to exploring works from diverse world cultures and eras.
