Inspired by his just published book, The Gift of Age, Richard Lederer will explore the incredible journey toward becoming chronologically endowed. Dr. Lederer will be signing The Gift of Age and a selection of the other books he has written.

Friday, April 6, 2012, 1:00 p.m., SAN 204. International Film Series: The Colors of the Mountain (Los Colores de la Montaña) (Spanish w/English subtitles, 1 hr. 30 min., rated R). When a 9-year-old Colombian boy receives a new soccer ball from his father, his dreams of becoming a pro goalie become even more magnified until the ball accidentally ends up in a mine field by his home, and he must figure out how to recover it. Directed by Carlos César Arbeláez.

Friday, April 13, 2012, 1:00 p.m., SAN 201. "Doc's Magic" presented by Rita Soza, Professor of Business, MiraCosta College. Ms. Soza will recount the seven-year process of documenting the life of a beloved California community college pioneer, Helen Miller Bailey, PhD, simply referred to as "Doc" by her admiring students. Enjoy a glimpse of Soza's upcoming biography of a true "California girl" as told by colleagues, students, friends, and family. A studied genius, whose expertise included pleinair painting and Latin American scholarship, Dr. Bailey was the rst to publish textbooks on Latin American history. In her 28 years at East Los Angeles Community College, she taught and mentored literally thousands of students. She was a world traveler, foster parent, and champion of social justice. Friday, April 20, 2012, 1:00 p.m, SAN 204. International Film Series: Trophy Wife (Potiche) (French w/English subtitles, 2011, 1 hr. 43 min., rated R). Set in 1977 and starring Catherine Deneuve as Suzanne Pujol, a housebound 'trophy wife' (or potiche) who steps in to manage an umbrella factory run by her tyrannical husband after the workers go on strike. Gerard Depardieu plays a union leader and Suzanne's ex-beau who still holds a flame for her. A satirical and hilarious take on the war between the sexes and classes by writer-director Francois Ozon.

Friday, April 27, 2012, 1:00 p.m., SAN 201. "My Affair with Art" presented by J. McNeil Sargent, award winning artist & author. McNeil shares her personal stories working with artist Françoise Gilot, the muse of Picasso, at the Printmaker's Atelier, which gained national recognition in the field of graphics. She will also discuss the art of print making and recall her friendships with Gilot and her husband Dr. Jonas Salk, Eddie Cantor and Gloria Swanson, to name a few.

Friday, May 4, 2012, 1:00 p.m., SAN 204. International Film Series: A Tale of Mari & the Three Puppies (Mari to koinu no monogatari). (Japanese w/English subtitles, 2007, 2 hrs. 4 min., PG). A touching story of love and resilience inspired by a true story of canine heroism. Mari’s tale of survival against all odds became a symbol of hope for the people of Yamakoshi in the aftermath of the 6.8 earthquake that devastated much of the area in October 2004. Directed by Ryuichi Inomata.
