The MiraCosta Alumni Association
will welcome alumni and friends back to the college at its inaugural event on August 16, 2019, at 6 p.m. at the MiraCosta College Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside, CA 92056. Returning alumni will enjoy activities that bring together lifelong Spartans, celebrate alumni excellence, and provide a nostalgic return to the college community.
This historic event marks the first time the MiraCosta Alumni Association will celebrate and reconnect with their alumni. The MiraCosta Alumni Association, founded in 2018, plays an important role in supporting MiraCosta College’s success through its current and former students. The Association provides opportunities for alumni to engage with each other, connect with their alma mater, and support the campus community.
“The MiraCosta Alumni Association is all about involvement, collaboration, and reconnecting with our former students,” said Cynthia Rice, associate vice president of institutional advancement. “We want to help connect alumni with each other, introduce them to what’s new at their alma mater, and make them feel they are part of a larger community. Many have ended up in leadership positions around the country, or have become problem solvers, trendsetters, professors, world travelers, and life-long learners—we can’t wait to hear their stories about where their MiraCosta College education took them,” Rice adds.
The event is presented by the MiraCosta College Foundation and proceeds from the event will support alumni scholarship programs. A scholarship has already been created to assist eligible students transferring to a four-year university of their choice.
The event program includes food, adult beverages, and networking hour with alumni, friends, staff, and faculty. Entertainment will be provided by jazz twins and MiraCosta College alumni, Jared and Jonathan Mattson of Mattson 2. The twins have an established international career and have charted in the Billboard charts numerous times including #1 Contemporary Jazz, #2 Jazz, and #20 Alternative, while landing features in the Washington Post and Pitchfork. More recently, Mattson 2 toured in several festivals including Vermont's Waking Windows, Ohio's Nelsonville Music Festival, Colorado's Telluride Jazz Festival, and SFJAZZ Festival to promote their newest album, Paradise.
Speaking at the celebration will be Dr. Sunny Cooke, superintendent/president of MiraCosta College; Cynthia Rice, associate vice president of institutional advancement; and MiraCosta Alumni Association coordinators, Tori Fishinger, Alex Karvounis, and France Magtira. Aaron Byzak, Chief External Affairs Officer at Tri-City Medical Center and 2003 MiraCosta College graduate will be the event’s featured speaker.
Event sponsors include California Coast Credit Union, Scripps Health, and Drs. Janice and Matt Kurth.
