LGBTQIA Safe Space Program

Safe Space Logo

The MiraCosta College LGBTQIA Safe Space Program aims to increase awareness of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) communities on campus, to support the college’s efforts to promote an accepting, supportive, and diverse learning environment, and to create a welcoming and tolerant environment for all members of the campus community. In October 2016 a 12-person accreditation team from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) gave a public commendation to the LGBTQIA Safe Space Program. According to the ACCJC, commendations "are provided for excellent practice when appropriate."

For additional information about MiraCosta College’s LGBTQIA Safe Space program, or for future training dates, please contact Safe Space co-facilitators Steven Deineh, dara, or Nery Chapeton-Lamas. If you would like your student group or class to take the free, interactive online LGBTQ on Campus for Students [Kognito interactive training] please provide this handout with instructions.

The current LGBTQIA Safe Space Program consists of 4 separate trainings. Folks wishing to be included in this directory should complete all trainings and should also seek out additional resources and training opportunities.
